The Margao Church Square Walk

MARGAO COMPLETES 240 YEARS

Today, 240 years back Margao was elevated from a village to the category of a town, through a Royal Decree of the Portuguese Queen Dona Maria I. This proclamation was signed after receiving a petition from the Senate of the chamber of the province of Salcete, by Feleciano Ramos Nobre Mourao on behalf of the Queen at the Palace of Nossa Senhora of Ajuda on 3rd April 1778.

To commemorate this occasion Goan Shutterbugs are organising four heritage walks. The first is on Sunday 8th April – the Church Square Walk starting at 5pm from the Holy Spirit Church. The walk is open to all and free.

The dates for the walks around the Margao Garden, Borda and Comba will be announced soon.
